Gastown’s Oak + Fort gets washed out for spring/summer preview

On April 5, I attended Oak + Fort’s spring/summer 2012 preview, which showcased designs from the local boutique’s newest collection.

The Gastown store (32 Water Street), which sells its own line of women’s and men’s clothing and accessories, has been open for a little over a year, and recently opened a second location in Edmonton. All clothing is designed and made in Korea and the many of the pieces are minimally produced and available in a select number of sample sizes.

Oak + Fort’s spring/summer 2012 collection takes the minimalist, neutral-toned garments it's known for one step further. Inspired by “the decomposition of civilization”, the collection is filled with washed-out pastels, oversized silhouettes, and lightly woven textures. The pieces—which are predominantly black, cream, grey, or blush hued—play with shape and movement through inventive draping and proportions.
