Geeky fun abounds at the first Vancouver Mega Comic-Con

This weekend (October 6 and 7), fans of pop culture, science fiction, fantasy, and comic books take over the Hyatt Regency Vancouver (655 Burrard) for the first Vancouver Mega Comic-Con.

As with most cons, there will be a full roster of activities and events, including celebrity guests, exhibitors, artists, gaming tournaments, and workshops.

Celebrities making guest appearances include Dustin Diamond (Saved by the Bell ), Clare Kramer (Buffy the Vampire Slayer), WWE wrestler the Honky Tonk Man, Manu Intiraymi (Star Trek: Voyager), and Francis Manapul of DC Comics, all of whom will be taking part in interviews throughout the two-day event.

Tickets range from $5 to $40, but children under five years of age can get in for free when accompanied by a paying adult. For more info, check out the event’s website.

Wow. Lame. All those "celebrities" are nobodies. This is Vancouver. There should be at least a couple main characters from Stargate and others from locally filmed shows like Battlestar Galactica, Smallville, Eureka, Once Upon a Time etc. What an embarrassment for the organizers.

Dustin Diamond! Saved By The Bell never had such literal reverberations. Get over there suckers and help Uncle Dusty pay the rent. By the way, in case you're too young to remember, that show was total corporate diarrhea and had nothing to do with comics. Have fun wasting money.

I'd rather have a $5 admission and NO "Celebrity guests"; this is the lesson this greedy promoter will have to learn!

This convention isn't the first big comic con in Vancouver. Perhaps for this company? In April, Fan Expo is bigger. Years ago, Hotel Vancouver had a big collectibles con. Herutage Hall still has a small con every few months.
