The Georgia Straight presents Animal Collective at Malkin Bowl

Live Nation and Sealed With A Kiss have announced that American experimental rock group Animal Collective will play an all-ages show at Malkin Bowl on Wednesday, September 19, in support of its upcoming release Centipede Hz.

Animal Collective consists of Avey Tare (David Portner), Panda Bear (Noah Lennox), Geologist (Brian Weitz), and Deakin (Joshua Dibb). The band members met during childhood and have known each other in some form or another for over 20 years. Having spent their formative years playing and discovering music together, Deakin and Panda Bear released what is considered the first Animal Collective-related release, Panda Bear's 1998 self-titled debut album, on their own Soccer Star Records. In 2000, Soccer Star became Animal and released Avey Tare and Panda Bear's Spirit They're Gone, Spirit They've Vanished. The album was the beginning of a discography comprised of any combination of two to four Animal Collective members--the ongoing definition of an Animal Collective release which continues to this day.

Centipede Hz is the 10th full length Animal Collective album, following Merriweather Post Pavilion, and also the first since Strawberry Jam to feature all four original band members.

The Animal Collective show is part of this year’s Concerts in the Park series. Since 2002 the series has attracted thousands of concertgoers to outdoor venues across the lower mainland, including Malkin Bowl in Stanley Park and Deer Lake Park in Burnaby.

Tickets for the show are priced at $37 (plus service charges and fees) and go on sale this Friday (June 15) at 10 a.m. on the Live Nation website.

Tickets are also available for purchase at Zulu, Highlife, and Red Cat Records, and at all Ticketmaster Outlets and Rogers Wireless Box Office.
