The Georgia Straight presents the Black Keys at Deer Lake Park

The Georgia Straight will be presenting a couple of unassuming white boys out of Ohio—better known to all of you as blues-rockers the Black Keys—at Deer Lake Park on June 27.

Long before they were picking up the Grammy for the best alternative album with Brothers, they were on our radar, headlining the Georgia Straight's first Straight Series concert back in 2008.

This time around the duo—vocalist-guitarist Dan Auerbach and drummer Patrick Carney—will be kicking off a Canadian tour with their Vancouver show, in support of that award-winning album (which we can't get enough of around here). Hope you were wise enough to listen to our sound advice when we told you all about the top albums of the year.

Tickets for the Black Keys, and openers Cage the Elephant, are priced at $45 (plus service fees) and go on sale Saturday (February 26), 10 a.m., at Live Nation, but Straight.com readers can take advantage of our presale, which takes place this Friday (February 25) from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., by going here.

I once rocked so hard to the Black Keys that one of my eyeballs popped out and rolled around on the floor. I had to get my friend to help me pop it back in and it was super gross because it had American Apparel lint and hipster sweat all over it.

Now give me some tickets, please.

The Balck Keys have renewed my faith in music. Finally a band with feeling!!! I have been listening to them since 2004 and have been awed by them ever since. The closest I have been to seeing them live is watching the 3 songs they performed on Live at Abbey Road in season 2. My girlfriend (will be my wife by then, getting married on June 11th) birthday is on the 24th and tickets would make a great birthday/wedding present.

I had left my soul in a pinata

an implosion of freedom
and my soul returned to me
and I was able to stop
writing such
whiny
trite
baloney.

Honestly, I'm trying to win these for my boyfriend. He is a HUGE! fan of the Black Keys...I swear he has been listening to their music almost every day for the past few years-for him, this band is a BIG DEAL and has got him through some rough times.
I would love to surprise him with these tickets!!!

The Black Keys are one of the best bands around right now. Every one of their albums is wicked. Saw them back in October, that show is in my top 5 all-time. Can't wait to see them in June!!! :D

I love how The Straight has to remind all of us that they're at the absolute avant garde of discovering music. Oh yeah? I first heard these guys when they used to jam in the garage next door! Give me a break.

Before the Black Keys I was just an Unknown Brother, Too Afraid to Love You. I said I was Never Gonna Give You Up, you said I'm Not the One. Like a Ten Cent Pistol it dropped me into the Black Mud. And then the Black Keys came along. They showed me the Everlasting Light, they helped me Tighten Up my game. These Days I'm a Sinister Kid, a Go Getter, and I've got the Next Girl saying I'm The Only One. I'm Howlin' for You, Black Keys, without you my girl would be Long Gone.

If that's not good enough... how about my dog just died?

Can't wait to see them live! Rubber Factory is one of the only two CDs I've actually bought in the last few years. I wanted to go watch them this past weekend in Vegas, but the air tickets were $600+..
I would love to win some tickets, but even if I don't, I'll still be attending the concert. Black Keys rocks!! See you all there!

On the 27th of June this year, I will turn 29. Nothing in the world would appease my mad-to-live-blues-rock-loving-starving-student-howlin'-oldish-soul than to see the 'Keys perform at the park near where I grew up in Burnaby (and lord, it's been awhile since I've been back there; catharsis here I come)...

Please take this as a respectful and formal appeal and make it happen for me, I beg of you, oh Mighty Georgia Straight Gods. As an ode to a song by the band in question and to a poem which echoes its title, I leave you now with the angst-ridden words of Mister Allen Ginsburg. Thank you.
