The Georgia Straight presents Machel Montano with the HD Family at the Commodore

Melo Productions has announced that Trinidad and Tobago-based soca artist Machel Montano will perform with the HD Family on Saturday, August 18, at the Commodore Ballroom.

One of the best-known soca acts in the world, throughout his three-decade career Montano has recorded with many Caribbean music legends, including Beenie Man, Calypso Rose, Wyclef Jean, Canibus, and Shaggy.

“I have been pushing the envelope, trying to revolutionize soca, trying to improve its quality,” says Montano. “It is very difficult to bring this music to the mainstream and at the same time stay grounded at home, but we have created a sound that we believe is palatable to all markets and can play on the radio in rotation with other popular songs and genres.”

Tickets for the show are priced at $50 (plus service charges and fees) and go on sale this Friday (May 4) at 10 a.m. but Straight readers can take advantage of our exclusive presale from Tuesday (May 1) at 10 a.m. to Thursday (May 3) at 10 p.m. by going to the Ticketmaster website and submitting the password DANCE.
