The Georgia Straight will be presenting the sizzling soul-funk band Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings at Malkin Bowl on May 27.

The sultry New Yorker met Dap-Kings bandleader and Daptone label head Gabe Roth in 1996, and between 2002 and 2007 the band released three albums. As one Georgia Straight music contributor said, "each one staking ever more convincing territory between ’60s soul and ’70s funk". They will be playing tunes from their latest release, I Learned the Hard Way.

Ms. Jones herself took some time to invite Vancouverites out for the show with this special YouTube announcement this morning

Tickets for Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings are priced at $32.50 (plus service charges and fees) and go on sale Friday (March 25), 10 a.m., at Livenation, but Straight readers can take advantage of our exclusive presale from Thursday (March 24) 10 a.m.–10 p.m. by using the password "dapkings".

I need more funk in my life because right now I am in too much of a school funk. I did get As for my assignments but as they say, all work and no play have made me truly a dull person. Help me put some more fun in my life!
