The Georgia Straight presents the Skatalites with guests Tonye Aganaba and the Foundation
Melo Productions has announced that Jamaican ska legends the Skatalites—joined by guests Tonye Aganaba and the Foundation—will perform at Venue on Thursday, April 19.
Formed by a group of studio musicians in 1964, the Skatalites backed the likes of Bob Marley, Jimmy Cliff, Toots and The Maytals, Prince Buster, Ken Boothe, Alton Ellis, and various other Jamaican vocalists in the early sixties. The group disbanded in 1965, but its music climbed the UK charts in 1966 with a version of "The Guns of Navarone".
The Skatalites reformed in 1983 and, although many of the original members have since passed, has been playing and touring ever since.
Tickets for the show are priced at $28.50 (plus service charges and fees) and go on sale Friday (February 17) at 10 a.m. on the TicketWeb website or charge by phone at 1-888-222-6608.
Tickets also available for purchase at Highlife and Zulu Records, Salon Supreme, Rehanah's Roti, Piassa Hairdressing Salon, Patty Shop & Caribbean Market.
