The Georgia Straight presents Toots and the Maytals at the Commodore

Live Nation has announced that Jamaican reggae legends Toots and the Maytals will perform on Monday, July 9, at the Commodore Ballroom.

Formerly known as the Maytals, Toots and the Maytals--led by Frederick “Toots” Hibbert--began recording in Jamaica in the early 1960s, backed by the Skatalites. The group officially changed its name and began working with Chinese-Jamaican producer Leslie Kong, with whom it produced such singles as “Do the Reggay”, “Pressure Drop”, and “Monkey Man”, its first international hit in 1970 .

The three-time Grammy-nominated group has been recording and performing for nearly 50 years, and has more than 20 studio albums under its belt.

Tickets for the show are priced at $30 (plus service charges and fees) and go on sale Friday (April 20) at 10 a.m. but Straight readers can take advantage of our exclusive presale from Wednesday (April 18) at 10 a.m. to Thursday (April 19) at 10 p.m. by going to the Ticketmaster website and submitting the password TOOTS.
