The Georgia Straight presents Wanda Jackson at Venue

Live Nation has announced that American singer-songwriter Wanda Jackson will perform at Venue on Saturday, September 8.

Known to many as the Queen of Rockabilly, Jackson has been recording and performing for over 50 years. A contemporary of Elvis Presley, she has had both country and rockabilly hits, including “Hot Dog! That Made Him Mad,” “Rock Your Baby,” “Mean Mean Man” and, “Honey Bop,” and often put one song in each style on either side of a single.

Jackson was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2009 as an Early Influence and, in 2011, released The Party Ain’t Over, a collaboration with Jack White. Her 31st studio album, Unfinished Business, is set for an October 9 release.

Tickets for the show are priced at $20 (plus service charges and fees) and go on sale this Friday (August 3) at 10 a.m. on the Live Nation website.

Tickets are also available for purchase by phone at 1-888-222-6608, at Red Cat and Zulu Records, and at Rogers Wireless Box Office.

Me thinks song 2 should have been saved for todays 3:01 Pick Me Up....

'Let’s face it: 3 p.m. is the cruellest time of the workday. The morning latte has worn off, and the post-lunch crash has you staggering around like an extra from a George A. Romero flick. That’s why, each weekday at 3:01 p.m., we present you with a video hand-picked to kick-start your heart. If the following clip doesn’t bring you temporarily back to life and help get you through the rest of the afternoon, chances are you’re dead inside.'
