The Georgia Straight proudly sponsors the 35th annual Vancouver Folk Music Festival
The Vancouver Folk Music Festival celebrates 35 years of folk, world, and roots music at Jericho Beach Park from July 13 to 15. The festival is open from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. on July 13 and 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. on July 14 and 15.
This year, the festival features more than 60 music artists on seven stages, including legendary singer-songwriters Lucinda Williams and Ani DiFranco, Seattle up-and-comers The Head and the Heart, and award-winning Canadian acts K’naan, Hey Rosetta!, The Johnny Clegg Band, Dan Mangan, and Serena Ryder.
This year’s family-friendly festival will also feature an impressive roster of international sounds, including Hungary’s Besh o droM, Columbia’s Los Gaiteros de San Jacinto, India’s Mrigya, and Mali’s Sidi Touré. Playing across all seven stages will be the sounds of Celtic music, Turkish electronica, a cappella voices, Afro-Mexican Costa Chica songs, Creole tunes, and more.
To help celebrate the festival’s 35th anniversary, the Vancouver Folk Music Festival is launching the Memory Project, which invites festival goers to share their favourite memories of the festival on the VFMF website.
Tickets can be purchased online, by phone at 604-602-9798, at the VFMF box office (100-2425 Quebec Street), and at Highlife Records, Zulu Records, Banyen Books & Sounds, Neptoon Records, and Tickets Tonight. Tickets will also be available at the festival gates on July 13 starting at 3:30 p.m.
