Celebrate Labour Day long weekend by heading downtown to the first annual Gastown BBQ and Chili Festival. The Blarney Stone and 11 other Gastown restaurants will host a two-day outdoor food festival and block party on Carrall Street between Cordova and Water Streets from September 1 to 2 at 1 to 8 p.m. The free, all-ages event will include a barbeque competition and chili cook-off, pig roast, live music and entertainment, and more.

On Saturday (September 1), barbeque food stations will open at 1 p.m., and the public is invited to taste and vote for their favourite vendor until 5 p.m. At 3 p.m., members of the public will get a chance to compete in a hot wing-eating competition, while celebrity judges Jason Garrison from the Vancouver Canucks, Olympian Georgia Simmerling, Sophie Lui from Global TV, Joe Leary from Team 1040, and Chef Peter Gray from Whet Kitchen.Bar.Patio have a chance to start their barbeque tasting at 4 p.m.

On Sunday, chili lovers will get to try and vote on an assortment of chili from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. before the judges sink their teeth in at 4 p.m. A roast pig will be served at 6 p.m. before awards for best barbeque and chili are presented at 7 p.m.

Participating restaurants include the Irish Heather Gastropub, Clough Club, Rogue Kitchen & Wetbar, Save On Meats, Pivo Public House, the Charles Bar, Steamworks Brewing Company, Calabash Bistro, and the Blarney Stone.

More info on the Gastown BBQ and Chili Festival can be found on the Blarney Stone website.
