The Georgia Straight proudly sponsors the Jessie Awards

The 30th annual Jessie Richardson Theatre Awards recognizes some of the best theatre performances and productions that took place across the Lower Mainland over the past year. The awards ceremony takes place at the Commodore Ballroom (868 Granville Street) on Monday (June 25) at 6:45 p.m.

This year, more than 120 individuals have been nominated in more than 25 categories, including outstanding performance by an actor and actress in lead and supporting roles, Outstanding Direction, Outstanding Costume Design, and more. Productions that have been nominated in this year's large theatre categories include the Vancouver Playhouse Theatre Company’s La Cage aux Folles, Rumble Productions’ Snowman, Bard on the Beach’s The Merchant of Venice, Arts Club Theatre Company’s Blood Brothers, Gateway Theatre’s Steel Magnolias, Patrick Street Productions’ The Light in the Piazza, and more.

Small-theatre nominees include Pacific Theatre’s Re:Union, Solo Collective Theatre’s After Jerusalem, Blackbird Theatre’s Waiting for Godot, among many others. Theatre for Young Audiences nominees include Carousel Theatre for Young People’s The Wizard of Oz, Green Thumb Theatre’s Out in the Open, Théâtre la Seizième’s Le Portrait Gooble, and more.
