The Georgia Straight proudly sponsors the Vancouver International Flamenco Festival

The Vancouver International Flamenco Festival, presented by Flamenco Rosario, is set to take place September 17 to 23. Now in its 23rd year, the week-long festival showcases highly acclaimed local, national, and international flamenco artists performing in a range of different styles.

This year’s festival highlights include a free lecture and dance demonstration by Flamenco Rosario at the Vancouver Public Library’s central branch on September 17 at 8 p.m. On September 20, Calgary’s Fiona Malena Flamenco Ensemble will take the stage at Waterfront Theatre. The following night, Montreal’s La Otra Orilla will be joined by local dancers at Waterfront Theatre. On September 22, Spain’s Angeles Gabaldón will perform Del Quivir at the Vancouver Playhouse, and on the festival’s closing night, La Musica del Flamenco will celebrate flamenco music at Cory Weeds’ Cellar Jazz Club.
