When the Grey Cup parade weaves its way through the streets of downtown Vancouver next month, actor Cory Monteith will be leading the way. Grey Cup festival organizers have announced that the 29-year-old star of the TV series Glee will be the grand marshal of this year’s parade set for November 26—a day before the 99th Grey Cup game will be played at B.C. Place Stadium.

Monteith was born in Calgary, raised in Victoria, and moved to Vancouver as a teenager to pursue his acting career. In 2008, he landed the role of Finn Hudson and has been starring on Glee for the past three seasons.

“It is an honour to serve as grand marshal for the 2011 Grey Cup parade in Vancouver. I love any excuse to come home and this is a thrilling one!” Monteith says in a statement released by the Grey Cup committee.

“Cory represents the fun and joy that will be a family day at the 2011 Grey Cup festival.” said Phil Reimer, chairman of the Safeway Grey Cup Festival Parade. “The entire day will be filled with events for all ages.”

In 2005—the last time Grey Cup was held in Vancouver—Pamela Anderson served as the parade’s grand marshal.

Totally agree with P2 and Ray 1.....what's up with this, Glee is Gay and the parade should be marshalled by a hot babe in a skimpy outfit.

Whether or not you like Glee, Cory Monteith has handles fame (which includes appearing at the White House, on Oprah and packing out concerts in the US, Canada and UK) plus his 'montourage' of fans with a charming professionalism. He has worked very hard to get to where he is having to pay his dues in the industry after a troubled youth. He represents Canada very well in Hollywood and it seems a shame not to celebrate that rather than just post negative comments.
