Glowbal goes casual with new Fish Shack restaurant opening fall 2012

The Glowbal Collection is set to open a new restaurant this fall, and unlike many of its eight restaurants across Vancouver, the Fish Shack (1026 Granville Street) will have a decidedly casual feel.

“We are excited by the possibilities of a new down-home direction," Emad Yacoub, who co-owns the Glowbal Collection with his wife Shannon Bosa-Yacoub, stated in a news released Thursday (September 13). "This is not fine dining; it is laid-back at every turn, from the jeans-clad service team to the menu to the decor. The Fish Shack is a place to catch a sports game while enjoying a beer and a relaxed meal."

The Fish Shack, which replaces the Glowbal Collection’s previous restaurant Sanafir, will focus on quick and casual seafood-based meals. Expect to see daily fresh fish specials, chowder bread bowls, fish and chips, and po’boy sandwiches on the menu.

The décor at the 100-seat two-level restaurant will follow a nautical theme—blue walls and “lifejacket red” banquettes.

Other restaurant owned by the Glowbal Collection including Glowbal Grill & Satay Bar, Coast, Italian Kitchen, Trattoria, Society, Black + Blue, and two IK2GO locations.

The photo accompanying this story should quickly deter any potential customers.

On a positive note, it does reinforce the owner's statement that "This is not fine dining".

      No kidding.

Bet it will keep to Glowbal's famous pricing though, and that will be a $20 dish. Wonder is the staff will get to keep their tips at this location??

Hi DavidH, the photo above is a stock photo of fish & chips and does not represent the exact dish that will be sold at the Fish Shack. Thanks.

@ Michelle: I am both relieved and horrified by your clarification.

I am relieved in the sense that the photo does not represent what the "Fish Shack" is actually serving to customers. I am horrified by the idea that people might be misled (and turned off) by the stock photo.

What struck me was your generally-positive review and its contrast with a photo of what I can only describe as a very sad and pathetic plate of fish and chips. The fact that the photo and the review were not connected escaped me. When I read an article and there is an associated photo, I will naively assume ... well, never mind.

Have a word with the editors and web guys, would you? Ta.

How much are they charging for that little plate, hope they serve Halibut with chips so good.

      Lawson:

The restaurant is not open yet, so no one knows what they will be charging or how large the portions will be.

This is an announcement, not a review.

      and the volume?

      Sep 16, 2012 at 2:10am

If their music plays as loud as it does in their other restaurants, I will never go there. Someone at Glowball seems to think that we don't enjoy nice conversation while dining. Perhaps they should turn down the volume so we can hear the specials of the day.

How can a 100 seat Fish and Chip shop survive and make money in Vancouver?
