Gordon Campbell's former chief of staff, Martyn Brown, writes a book

I just stumbled across a notice of a new ebook by Martyn Brown, the former chief of staff to Gordon Campbell.

Towards A New Government in British Columbia is billed as a response to the "growing desire for new leadership that can restore public trust and confidence".

Here's how Brown describes his book on the Amazon.com site:

On May 14, 2013, British Columbians will go to the polls to elect a new government. For the governing BC Liberals and for their "free enterprise” supporters, the outlook is bleak. Confidence is waning. Hope is fading. Confusion is abounding. And apathy reigns supreme.

Understanding and responding to that predicament is the purpose of this eBook. At the heart of the matter is the point of power, the need for change, and British Columbians’ growing desire for new leadership that can restore public trust and confidence....Ultimately, this work is an argument for a new way of governing and for new forms of political engagement that better respect voters’ democratic choices, that appreciate the fluid nature of coalitions, that value critical thought, and that emphasize innovation, vision and open, honest discourse.

Critical thought, vision, and open, honest discourse? I can imagine how that's going to be received by those who look upon Brown as B.C.'s version of Karl Rove during the Campbell years.

This is the same Martin Brown who ran in the streets with the ultra right wing BC Fisheries Survival Coalition and supported their racial agenda?

Martyn Brown acted as Roy Cohn for the Liberals.

There was no limit to his partisanship, his hard elbows, and his vitriol. Like every politician of the pit bull persuasion, he never knew when to let go. He attacked everything -- and everyone-- that displeased him.

He has a remarkable memory for the grudge, the slight, the quarrel. Vengeance is his, especially in this distasteful little book. Christy Clark may be an incompetent on her way out, but only a 'Liberal' like Martyn Brown would enjoy kicking her down the stairs.

It's passing strange how his long memory failed him so utterly when under oath in the BC Rail scandal.

Martyn Brown will never write a "tell-all" about that disgrace. No wonder.

Nice Rove analogy Charlie. He has been pretty blunt in his assessment of the dreadful bungling of the HST,seemingly surprised it sufaced as it did. He declared it wasn't on the radar before the election and that Campbell totally miscalculated the wrath of voters as the tax burden was shifted from business to individuals-handling of all things in the economy supposedly being the Liberals strong suit. He certainlt shreds Ms Clark-no surprise given she dumped him asap.Curious, however, that the BC Rail scandal is not on his radar.

Perhaps people should read the book first before posting mean spirited comments

Heard you on Rutherford's show--can't get on BC? Wonder why!!! What a bunch of sour grapes. You got to be the biggest whiner and no wonder your gone off the political map--Christy Clark wouldn't want you. By the way OIL is not a NATIOANAL resource. REDford made Christy's requirement ie more money political the only problem the tarsands product are not government owned BUT a private enterprise and has all the right to ask for much as she can get after all Christy (is the facto lessee) is asking for more money (and rightfully so in view of the free enterprise/market mantra 'charge whatever the market place will bear!!'). It is REDford that has made this issue political and anti constitutional/Canadian--WHAT CRAP--it has always been Alberta's position KEEP YOUR HANDS OFF OUR RESOURCE (remember Klein the beer swilling premier who told the eastern bastards to freeze to death). Now thta tarsands consortium have over produced and need more markets they are trying to play nicy to get their product to market and BC is becoming the whipping dog (Harper is from where? and what party?). The pipeline is NOT supported by most of the BC people au contraire. Finally Kitimat is the place to go in the first place even if the pipeline can be considered 'safe' the Douglas Channel cannot handle 3M barrel tankers as proven back in circa 1972 by physical test!!!! It seem your knowledge of the REAL IISSUES is biased wishful thinking anti 'nose out joint' inane rant.

It seems strange to me why BC is so against the pipeline, when they had a oil pieline running through thier province for 60 plus years it crosses hundreds of stream and rivers including the Fraser, never once an oil spill, BC has had hundreds of tanker up and down the cost for over 60 years also, how does Vancouver Island and the West Coast towns like Prince Rupert and Kitmat get oil to drive thier car, Imperial Oil has been shipping it up the Coast for 60 plus years.

Not only that but all the coal which is why more dangerous in a spill is being shipped from the North east coal project to Coast by rail then put on monters shipps to go to China.

Not only that you have a natural gas pipelines at least 3 to the caost the newest is to Prince Rupert and when they leak they kill...

BC also runs a major gas line from the Peace River through Alberta to the USA (I wonder how much Alberta should get for that to continues 50% profit sounds good to me, Maybe Alberta should surcharge the oil we send to run BC's lower mainland extra 30 buck a barrel seems good to me ..They all have bikes in BC they don't need gas guzzling cars or trucks to deliver their food they all have replicators thats how the food they import gets to the store and the bagel shop.

BC should be very carefull or they may have to import their oil by tanker from another Commy Chevez ..
