Guitar hero Slash to produce horror movies for new company Slasher Films

We here at Ear of Newt have always contended that rock music and horror movies are two of the best things in the world—right up there with peace and love—so we're happy to report that iconic guitar hero Slash has committed himself to the cause of scaring the pants off folks.

A longtime horror fan, Slash has teamed up with Scout Productions—the company behind such films as Session 9 and Fog of War—to create Slasher Films, which will make horror movies inspired by his favorite fear flicks of the past. The company's first project, titled Nothing to Fear, is scheduled to begin shooting next year, and concerns a young family that moves to a small town in Kansas and encounters an ancient demon.

"We're going to be putting out two, maybe three movies per year," Slash told artistdirect.com in an interview posted yesterday. "They'll be really high quality, very character-driven, and insanely scary horror movies. They're not going to be scary in the sense that you're waiting for a monster to come out and cut off someone's arm. They're going to be psychologically scary and intense.

"They'll harken back to those great movies of the '60s and '70s," he added, "and even way before that. I think when A Nightmare on Elm Street came out was the last stretch of really great horror movies. Then everything sort of went gore."
