Has U.S. first lady Michelle Obama become a trans magazine cover girl?

Onlookers will undoubtedly do double-takes when they see the cover of the fifth edition of Candy magazine.

But no, the woman gracing the cover of the trans fashion magazine isn't actually U.S. first lady Michelle Obama. Instead, it's a striking lookalike candydate: transgender model Connie Fleming.

Publisher Luis Venegas  told Dazed Digital that it's the first time the cover story isn't about a star (previous covers have included Chloe Sevigny, James Franco, and Andrej Pejic). He said that he was inspired by the idea of social barriers disappearing and the possibility of a black transgender woman in the White House.

Fleming, who is a stylist and fashion designer assistant, has previously modelled on Paris and New York City runways, for the likes of Thierry Mugler, and has performed in the Tokyo and NYC nightclub scenes.

Also featured in the issue is Canadian director Xavier Dolan (whose film transgender drama Lawrence Anyways was recently selected for Canada's Top Ten) in drag.

And the times, they certainly are a-changin' in the White House. A transgender man proposed to his girlfriend there in June amid Pride Month celebrations, and this past weekend (on December 15), a U.S. Marine Corps captain proposed to his boyfriend in the White House in front of other visitors. It became the first same-sex marriage proposal that took place there.
