How an architect, a photographer, a group of artists, and a very special chair came together
If you read today's Fall Arts Season Preview in the Georgia Straight, you saw a series of stunning portraits of the city's top up-and-coming artists, all seated in an eye-catching orange and chrome chair.
If you thought the chair was special, it is: it was designed by the late architect Arthur Erickson with his long-time partner and interior designer Francisco Kripacz, courtesy of its owner, Hugo Eppich.
The building you see in the background of the shots also bears the clean, almost-futuristic lines of Erickson: the Scotiabank Dance Centre, which he designed with Architectura for its grand opening in 2001.
The shots, of course, were orchestrated by photographer Alex Waterhouse-Hayward, who had the chance to try out the seat between shoots.
