Prolific indie rocker Jay Reatard has died. The Web site of the musician's hometown paper, the Memphis Commercial Appeal, has reported that the 29-year-old musician, born Jay Lindsey, was found dead in his bed at around 3:30 a.m. this morning. According to the report, Memphis police are investigating.

Starting at the age of 15, Lindsey made his name playing in a number of bands, including the Lost Souls, the Bad Times, the Final Solutions, the Angry Angles, and the Reatards (the source of his stage moniker). He also started the Shattered Records label in 2004.

Lindsey was known for his prolific recorded output and his relentless touring. In an interview with the Straight last June, Lindsey told Jenny Charlesworth, in regards to his hectic schedule, "I’m very aware of my mortality. I’m just trying to do as much as I can while I’m still young and have the energy.”
