The Island President takes a sharp look at global warming

On Monday (March 12), 7 pm, DOXA Documentary Film Festival presents a screening of The Island President at the Shadbolt Centre for the Arts (6450 Deer Lake Ave., Burnaby).

The Island President (which won the People’s Choice Award for Best Documentary at the 2011 Toronto International Film Festival) details the battle of Maldives president Mohamed Nasheed to bring global warming and rising sea levels to the forefront of the international stage. The Maldives (an island nation situated at sea level) is being slowly eaten away by the rising waters of the Indian Ocean, and stands to be one of the first countries to succumb to global climate change.

Tickets for the screening are $12, and can be found along with all the details at DOXA’s website.
