Just wait until “Fuck TransLink” buttons start showing up on SkyTrain riders

You’ve probably already heard about TransLink police booting 21-year-old Jean Wharf off the SkyTrain for wearing a “Fuck Yoga” button.

The B.C. Civil Liberties Association has taken up her cause and filed a complaint with the office of the police complaint commissioner, arguing the button is protected by the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

It’s being widely reported as an incident of censorship, though some news outlets doing so can’t even bring themselves to print the F-word.

Robert Holmes, president of the BCCLA, reportedly stated in a news release: “Wearing a button doesn’t break the law. Transit’s approach opens it to ridicule. What about books that contain the F word that people read on the bus? What about clothing or shopping bags from FCUK? What about people who say the F word while talking in a normal speaking voice to a friend on the bus or SkyTrain?”

      In other words, WTF?

My thoughts: maybe we should all start putting on “Fuck Censorship” buttons before getting on the SkyTrain.

Update (April 8): “Fuck TransLink” and “Fuck Censorship” buttons surface after "Fuck Yoga" pin controversy

Wasn't she also a fare evader? From what I saw in Metro this morning, that was the reason she was kicked off and they just asked that she remove the button.

I wish everyone would stop saying that she got kicked off for wearing the button.
      She didn't.
She got kicked off for not paying. THEN the skytrain police wouldn't let her back on because of the button.
I'm willing to bet that if she had paid, no one would have said ANYTHING.

If she was a fare evader then this news story is totally out of order. On the other hand, a "fuck yoga" button is hilarious. I hate Western Yoga with a passion. It's way too much about getting a nicer booty than attaining inner peace.

My experience of the transit cops, shows me they enforce only the rules around fare evasion. Despite the posted signs banning smoking on Translink property, I have yet to see it enforced, even when at Metrotown or Burrard St, people stand directly under the NO smoking signs, smoking, even when transit cops are checking your right to be on their property. They only enforce fare evasion and they are very aggressive and mean about it.
If children and young people are the reason why this person was asked to remove the button, then I have to ask where is that concern when I have encountered a toxic pesticide, mothballs,on Skytrain and various buses, which has forced me to stop my trip and get off the bus or move to another car, when at a station. This is highly toxic to children as well as adults and it is ignored...
