Kat Von D, celebrity tattoo artist and star of TV's LA Ink, headed to Vancouver

I'm not crazy about tattoos. I don't have any, I don't want any, and half the time I don't even like looking at 'em. But I still enjoy watching Kat Von D inject permanent ink into people's skin on her reality show LA Ink. I just love the passion she exudes when she's turning her customers into human canvases.

And those eyes aren't bad either.

The soap opera aspects of the show can get you hooked as well. I keep hoping Von D, who seems like a real sweetie, will hook up with one of the cooler guys that hang out at her High Voltage Tattoo shop in Hollywood, like maybe her roommate, BMX pro Mike “Rooftop” Escamilla. I mean, her choice of boyfriends of late—Nikki Sixx from Motley Crue and Jesse James from Sandra Bullock—could be better if you ask me. I know, I know—nobody's askin'.

Sixx actually wrote the foreword for Von D's 2009 book, High Voltage Tattoo, which hit #6 on the New York Times bestseller list. Now she's got a new book out called The Tattoo Chronicles, which, according to the bumph, is "an illustrated diary that offers an intimate look at a crucial year in her personal and professional life." Not only that, but you might enjoy reading about some of her more rocking clients, including members of Metallica and Kings of Leon and the mighty Lemmy Kilmister of Motorhead.

Local Von D fanatics who want to buy the book can get it signed by her at Chapters Robson on Monday, November 22, starting at 7 p.m. But gaze into those raven eyes at your own peril.

This article is so poorly written that I have to wonder if the editorial staff enjoyed a liquid lunch prior to approving it for publishing. Kat is a manufactured celebrity that while enjoying the profits of her fame offers little to the world of tattooing beyond reinforcing commonly held stereotypes about the people who choose to tattoo or be tattooed.

Have to disagree with Mr Lcfr - By actually having a show such as LA Ink Kat Von D has helped change people's perception of tattoo artists and the kind of people who have tattoos. It is only narrow minded people who continue to reinforce the so called "stereotypes" in the tattoo world. She has little control over the "drama" the TLC producers insist upon, and if she had her way - it would be more about tattooing than drama. I've enjoyed both her books and 800 people turned out for her book signing here. She stood the entire time taking a few moments with each person and an individual photo with each.
If I had a daughter I'd be thrilled if Kat von D was her role model as opposed to someone like Miley Cyrus....

Hi, my skin looks likes someone went crazy with felt pens! Does it wash off? Acceptance of piercing, branding and tattoos? Such hippocrites. Aesthetics? Culture? Spirituality. Do what you will. Tattoos on
      old ladies?
