La Cage Drag Walk for the Playhouse happening this weekend
Resourceful theatre folk are planning protest parades starting at 10 a.m. this Sunday, in a gesture of support for the Vancouver Theatre Playhouse Company.
Protesters are being asked to show up at a variety of time slots to march a 6.5 km-route from 350 Powell Street down Main, Broadway, Cambie, and Hamilton Streets, ending at the Playhouse.
All protesters will be costumed, but the 3 p.m. contingent is likely to gain the most attention: this group will be outfitted in drag inspired by La Cage aux Folles, the drag musical which ran at the Playhouse last December.

Did the organizers of the protest parades know the Celtic Parade was also Sunday, starting at 11am.? You'd be better off parading up and down Granville street past the vendors at the Celtic Market, if you want anyone to notice. How about a day of mourning for the arts with all the theatres going dark and no events taking place? The audience might pay attention.
