The list to beat all lists

This week, the Georgia Straight published our movie critics' lists of the top 10 films of the year.

Media outlets are actually replete with lists, particularly at this time of year.

The New Yorker has taken the idea of compiling items one step further by publishing "The Hundred Best Lists Of All Time"

Ranking Number 1 is the Periodic Table of Elements, which is a very good choice.

Alcoholics Anonymous's 12 steps ranks eighth. Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs checks in at 21.

My favourite is Number 26, "The Spy 100". That's the annual list of the most annoying, alarming, and appalling people, places, and things in New York and the Nation, which was compiled by the now-defunct satirical magazine of the same name.
