Local flamenco stars get swingy and suave in new "Johnny" video
Local flamenco fans will recognize a few familiar faces in the suave new video for "Johnny" that's just been released by local crooner Johnny Gallant.
Don't get me wrong: there's not a castanet or ruffled skirt in sight, though you might detect some of flamenco's heat as an undercurrent. Think old Nat King Cole style with a violin and full horn arrangement.
The video features Karen Flamenco's raven-haired artistic director, teacher, and performer Karen Pitkethly sashaying up to the bar. And the singer, Johnny himself? He also goes by the name Nikola Tucakov, a frequent floor-pummelling star of Karen Flamenco shows like the recent Peter Pan.
Johnny Gallant put together the song as a response to that famous song in Europe called "Johnny", sung in French by Vaya Con Dios.
Now if only we could all be so multitalented...
