Loving Hut Express rolling vegan food cart into Vancouver
Vegans across Vancouver shed a tear when the Loving Hut closed its doors in December 2010.
The vegan eatery, damaged by a fire that hit the restaurant row on West Broadway at Cambie Street, served a variety of fast food but was especially known for its pizza, made with Daiya dairy-free cheese.
Now comes word that a Loving Hut Express food cart is preparing to open later this month in Vancouver.
A website, Facebook page, and Twitter feed have been set up for the street food vendor, which will be based in front of the Roundhouse Community Arts and Recreation Centre, at the corner of Pacific Boulevard and Davie Street in Yaletown.
Loving Hut Express plans to sell vegan burgers and sandwiches, and use local and organic ingredients as much as possible.
According to its website, the food cart will operate Tuesday to Sunday during the summer.
Loving Hut eateries belong to an international chain of fast-food joints that are run by followers of the Supreme Master Ching Hai, a Vietnamese-born spiritual teacher, and are popular with vegans.
In the spring, Supreme Master followers opened up the Vegan Pizza House at 2119 Kingsway.
Loving Hut Express was one of the 19 new food vendors announced in April by the City of Vancouver as part of the expansion of its street food program.
When it opens, it’ll be the city’s first fully vegan food cart.
