LUSH Cosmetics launches colourful Emotional Brilliance
On July 11, I attended a media preview at LUSH Cosmetics’ newly renovated Robson Street location for the company’s Emotional Brilliance collection, which will launch worldwide and online Saturday (July 21). I had previously associated LUSH with scented bath bombs and handmade skincare products only, so I was excited to check out the company’s recent foray into makeup.
The Emotional Brilliance line is all about personalizing your makeup and showing the world your “true” emotional colours. The collection was created by Rowena Bird with assistance from a strategic behavioural therapist. At the event, I was asked to spin a wheel covered in colourful dots with my eyes closed, and then select the three colours that stood out to me most once I opened my eyes. I was told that these three colours each corresponded to my emotional state at the time: the first colour choice represented a strength or weakness, the second colour choice represented a subconscious need, and the third colour choice represented a talent that would, in turn, help me achieve the subconscious need.
The 30 colours ($22.95 for 5 grams) in the Emotional Brilliance line are each marked with a name, such as “Ambition”, which is a fiery orange-red”; “Feeling Secure”, an electric indigo-blue; “Wise”, a moss green; and “Lifted”, a bright canary yellow. Each bottle is also labeled as a liquid eyeliner, liquid lipstick, or cream eye shadow; however, the products can be used interchangeably.
LUSH customers will be able to spin the Emotional Brilliance wheel in stores and online to determine, which makeup colours best represent them.
Other new makeup products available at LUSH include the Emotional Brilliance Translucent Powder ($18.95), which is an ultra-fine light-reflecting face powder that can be used over foundation; Skin Tints ($18.95), which can be used as a makeup primer and contains cocoa butter, almond and jojoba oils, and orange flower water; and Eyes Right Mascara ($18.95), which is directed towards people with eye sensitivities as it only contains one preservative and is made with wheatgrass to help condition and nourish lashes.
