Mode Moderne's mood music doesn't move Victory Square's mellow crowd

The crowd at Victory Square has been especially mellow this year. Despite the bass-pounding party rap of stoned-out collective Too High Crew, and the surfy pop punk that Korean Gut cranked out earlier, most people have been chilling on the grassy knoll near the stage.

If nothing else, the throng is consistent. The 80s-indebted outfit Mode Moderne are delivering their brand of moody tunes, and the crowd continues to take it easy.

Singer Phillip Intile is trying to rile them up with the dancey "Disco Ruff", a song where he sings "young girl, I want to dance tonight," but it's looking like he's going to come out empty-handed. At least for the forseeable future.

There are, however, two bands to go.

Gregory Adams is filing items of interest from the Victory Square Block Party.
