The other night I listened to the new Beatles album, On Air–Live at the BBC Volume 2, and it's got its pros and cons.
To be honest, I could do without the 19 “speech tracks” that litter this three-LP package. Most of it is goofy gibberish between the Beatles and various BBC DJs, but I don’t need to hear that crap. Although I love the Beatles to death—they’re my favourite band of all time—there was enough Fab Four silliness on A Hard Day’s Night alone to last a lifetime.
Couldn’t make it out last night? You missed Canadian folk singer-songwriter Basia Bulat reducing the audience at the Rio Theatre to tears—in a good way. Lise Monique Oakley was there and caught a moment on Twitter. Here’s your concert pick of the morning. Basia Bulat at the Rio Theatre on December 5, 2013. Thanks Lise.
I've been lucky enough to have seen ZZ Top a number of times over the years, the first being at the Pacific Coliseum back in 1976 or so. I think it was on the Fandango tour, but I can't find any mention of that gig anywhere online. Anybody else see that show, before the big-beard period? Pretty sure I didn't imagine it.
I also saw them at the Coliseum at the height of their popularity, on the Eliminator tour of '84. OMG was it a zoo in there. I'd never seen such a roiling mass of bodies on an arena floor.
