National Rifle Association releases statement regarding Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting

The National Rifle Association has finally put out a typically anemic statement in regards to the mass shooting that left 20 children and six adults dead in Newtown, Connecticut on Friday (December 14).

The National Rifle Association of America is made up of four million moms and dads, sons and daughters – and we were shocked, saddened and heartbroken by the news of the
horrific and senseless murders in Newtown.

Out of respect for the families, and as a matter of common decency, we have given time for mourning, prayer and a full investigation of the facts before commenting.

The NRA is prepared to offer meaningful contributions to help make sure this never happens again.

The NRA has scheduled a press conference for December 21 presumably to talk about how awesome guns are and why stricter gun-control laws are an impediment to "freedom".

Here's hoping the organization's "meaningful contributions" will actually include an end to pro-gun political lobbying; the non-profit organization spent $2,205,000 from January to October 2012 on partisan politicking.

Respect and common decency is "anemic"? Sheesh. At least wait for the actual statement before passing judgment. #fail

There isn't an organisation in the States more responsible for all of the gun violence and killings (12,000 by guns last year, compared to 200 in Canada) than the National Rifle Association. These sick puppies think the more guns the better, and spend millions of dollars a year to lobby politicians to make that happen. The NRA was completely against a ban on assault rifles, which have no use for hunting and are only good for killing people. Anything this group says expressing regrets for what happened in Connecticut is disingenuous. Their actions speak much louder than words.
