New Serbian documentary festival: human rights, athletes, and more

The people who brought us the Vancouver Serbian FilmFest are embarking on a new venture that will help to expand upon what their annual film festival has to offer.

The new Serbian Documentary Film Festival will present five documentaries about Serbian culture and issues during a one-day event (March 15) at the Serbian Centre (7837 Canada Way, Burnaby).

The films will cover a range of topics and will include:
Ӣ Kosovo/Can You Imagine?, an exploration of human rights in Kosovo directed by Vancouver's Boris Malagurski;
Ӣ Jelena's World, about tennis star Jelena Jankovic;
Ӣ Who Sleeps at Eagle and Two Lions?, about a tragic historical incident at the end of the First World War;
Ӣ A Traveler Through Distant Worlds and Times, about renowned 20th century scientist Milutin Milankovic;
Ӣ How to Become a hero?, about an overweight man who is determined to run in the Belgrade Marathon.

Prior to the Burnaby screening, the films will be shown in Kelowna on March 8.
