New video promotes shit Harper did

There's a fun new YouTube video, which promotes a website targeting Conservative Leader Stephen Harper.

I initially guessed that this was created by an ad agency. My suspicions increased after I checked into who registered the domain name.

It was obtained through http://www.contactprivacy.com/, which is based in Toronto.

Then I falsely surmised that the producer didn't want you to know his or her identity.

After I published these views, it came time for the folks who visit this site to set me straight on the ShitCharlieDid.

I've since updated this post so that anyone who looks at it doesn't come to any false conclusions.

No affiliations. It is, in fact, 100% "grassroots youth-led rebellion against the federal Conservatives."

Sorry. Email us at info@shitharperdid.com. We're happy to set the record straight.

It's no wonder whoever created the site wanted to remain anonymous - the site is down now, and I suspect it has to do with Harper and his torrid love affair with censorship. What gain could an ad company possibly have in creating this site? Publicity? Where's their name on any of this, then? Endorsement of a political party? Note that no other party is praised on this site, let alone damn well mentioned. Too deem this video and otherwise effort "too slick" for youth is an insult to capabilities of young people ever. Instead of dully commending these folks for putting a lot of work into exposing Harper for what he is and has done while encouraging youth to vote you decide to poke holes? You sir, make no sense.

Charlie, you're wrong I'm afraid. It is indeed a "grassroots youth-led rebellion" albeit one led by talented and connected youth, hence the "slick-ness". The mastermind has even been featured in this very paper before for other Vancouver endeavours. There is no agency agenda behind it or Toronto connection other than the anonymous hosting.

Grass roots efforts can be slick too dude.

How sad to presume it couldn't possibly be a youth-led grassroots movement. Underestimating the 18-34s is precisely the problem with politics today. And btw, the site went down b/c it had over 1 million hits in a 7-hour time-frame. Too bad Charlie Smith does less homework than this wee "grassroots youth-led rebellion against the federal Conservatives". Guess 'real' media-types can be 'fooled' (Smith's word) too.

Okay, I may be wrong. It won't be the first or the last time. This is what this comment forum is created for -- to highlight ShitCharlieDid

It would be nice to hear who is responsible for this site, though.

And I sent an e-mail through the anonymous hosting service before I posted this article.

There's a FB page, a tumblr, a Twitter a/c and a blog. Somewhere, somehow, Charlie, I'm sure you can find the answer (I recommend Tumblr--that's where the originators announced the site's launch for today.) Kudos for owning up to the error.

Hi Charlie! It's Sean, you know me! I wrote the GG prorogue letter, did the Enbridge MyHairCares stuf...

I actually emailed you a preview of the site around 8:45am today right as we were launching... maybe you didn't see?

I was wrong. Unlike Harper, I admit it when I fuck up.

We were sending the paper to the printer and I have trouble getting through all my e-mails on Wednesdays. A staff member sent me this video, I looked at it and drew a stupid conclusion.

I've sent an e-mail to Sean offering to interview him on our site tomorrow if he wants to drop by the office. He can explain everything.

That is, if I still have a job tomorrow after dashing off the post above.

Of course, if I don't have a job, I might have more time on my hands for doing research, which you might all appreciate.
