Nickelback, Sam Roberts, and the Stills are big winners at the Junos
The Junos have now come and gone through Vancouver. After a four-day party, much of it on Granville Street, the major winners of Canada's national music awards were announced tonight at a glitzy ceremony at General Motors Place hosted by comedian Russell Peters.
Here are a few who took home Junos:
Ӣ The Stills won New Group of the Year and for Alternative Album of the Year for Oceans Will Rise
”¢ Kardinal Offishall won Single of the Year for “Dangerous”
Ӣ Nickelback was the Group of the Year and won the Juno Fan Choice Award
Ӣ Lights was the New Artist of the Year
Ӣ Dallas Green won Songwriter of the Year
Ӣ Sam Roberts took home Artist of the Year and the Rock Album of the Year for Love at the End of the World
Ӣ Alanis Morissette won for the Pop Album of the Year for Flavors of Entanglement
Ӣ Molly Johnson was chosen for Vocal Jazz Album of the Year for Lucky
Ӣ Serena Ryder won Adult Alternative Album of the Year for is it o.k.

Canada is extremely rich in popular talent with bands such as Arcade Fire, Wolf Parade, The New Pornographers, Tegan and Sara, Owen Pallett etcetera. Just listen to CBC Radio 3. So, why wasn't this talent displayed at the Junos. I've got nothing against Nickleback but, it was embarassing to see them walk away with the three big awards of the night. Sorry folks, Soundscan sales data is obviously not a relevant indicator of Canada's most popular band and album. The Canadian music industry missed a great opportunity to celebrate and promote the richness of the music being produced here by giving all its accolades and airtime to Nickleback.
