Occupy Vancouver to help shut down West Coast ports?

A call is going out to all Occupy movements up and down the West Coast to join a planned blockade of ports next Monday (December 12).

According to the West Coast Port Blockade website, Occupy Oakland has issued a proposal for the protest, which reads in part:

Occupy Oakland calls for the blockade and disruption of the economic apparatus of the 1% with a coordinated shutdown of ports on the entire West Coast on December 12th.

The 1% has disrupted the lives of longshoremen and port truckers and the workers who create their wealth, just as coordinated nationwide police attacks have turned our cities into battlegrounds in an effort to disrupt our Occupy movement.

Occupy Vancouver's Twitter account has tweeted a link to the port shutdown announcement video:

According to Occupy Vancouver's events calendar, the local action will start at 12 noon at Callister Park (Oxford Street at Renfrew Street).

The calendar entry states:

Our fellow Occupiers in San Diego, Los Angeles, Oakland, Portland, Tacoma, and Seattle have asked us to stand in solidarity with them and Occupy Vancouver has responded with a resounding YES!

We hope that you will join us in this action and invite your sisters, brothers, neighbours and co-workers to successfully block the New Brighton Port entrance. Bring your signs, chants, passion, instruments, bikes, and revolutionary spirit!

Might want to think twice about getting in the way of a long shoreman trying to put food on the table for his family.

Really, if Occupy wants to shoot itself in the foot, this would be an excellent way to do it.

*sigh*

As the callout says, "The ILWU, the longshoremen union that stretches across the West Coast, has a history of honouring 'community pickets.' If we can get enough bodies to block the New Brighton Port entrance in Vancouver, arbitrators will be forced to get involved and declare working conditions unsafe, allowing the longshoremen to go home with a full day’s pay!"

WTF?!?
So, once again they're not going after the actual financial district that caused this, but disrupting the lives of the regular Joe Lunchpails hoping to create some domino effect way down the line.

Well, I'm glad they're not occupying med school ...

This "occupy" thing that began credibly is now quickly becoming a farce that is hard to take serious.

First Nations support?
Did Occupy Vancouver ask the Tsleil-Waututh First Nation for permission or did these white anarchists just decide to do whatever they want?
