"Only known photograph" of Phil Lynott and Rory Gallagher performing together isn't quite so rare

Man, some journalists need to do better research. Like maybe check out YouTube.

A story in yesterday's Belfast Telegraph states that a former rock photographer came across what could be the only image of Ireland's two most famous dead rockers, together on stage.

"The only known photograph of late rock stars Phil Lynott and Rory Gallagher performing together has been re-discovered after 28 years," wrote the Telegraph reporter, whose byline was not included with the story. "The image, taken at an open-air concert at Punchestown Racecourse in July 1982, was only unearthed two weeks ago by photographer Colm Henry."

Now, if only the intrepid reporter had bothered to go to YouTube and search under "Rory Gallagher and Phil Lynott", he would have found at least two other photos from the very same show.

Much more newsworthy than Henry's live shot is the recent release on Ear of Newt of a concert photo of Rory Gallagher that was taken by Sir Bob Geldof when he was music editor of the Georgia Straight in the '70s. We're pretty damn sure that's the only known photograph of Gallagher taken by Geldof. We checked YouTube, at least.

And what we did find there was a recording from the Lynott/Gallagher summit that, while awful sounding, does show the underrated brilliance of Gallagher's guitarwork. Check it out if you dare.

Now you're gonna get members of Pride Tiger trying to get Steve McBean on stage with them so they can sneak an "iconic" pic and really get the hipsters talking!
