PETA continues to promote animal welfare by exploiting women

It always amazes me what disgusting depths PETA will mine to get its "don't eat the precious animals!" message out there. Sending out half-naked (or fully naked) women on the streets to preach their ideology is bad enough, but this? This disgusting piece of trash takes the cake.

The content? Becoming vegan will turn your boyfriend into an insatiable sex machine. The subtext? Eating animals is bad, but sexual violence is totally fucking cool. To that end, here's a battered woman in her goddamn underwear.

PETA, for serious: cut this shit out. It's gross and demeaning and just makes you look like insensitive assholes, not to mention completely trivializes sexual violence. There has got to be a better way to make your point than constantly degrading women.

I'm so angry I'm going to eat a baby animal.

Thank you!

Becoming vegan never changed my sex life. But PETA knows sex sells, and that's the ploy for all of their advertising these days. What idiots.

It doesn't make them "look like insensitive assholes" - it simply proves that they ARE insensitive assholes.

PETA is, without question, an organization without moral values. It is a money-making pit down which fools happily pour their money because the fools are simply too stupid to recognize a scam when they see one.

What a shame that our legitimate concern for animal welfare can be so sickenly warped by an organization that exists to serve its own revenue goals.

Any respect I had for PETA was gone 10 years ago when they compared eating meat to the killer Robert Pickton. After those ads nothing surprises me.

where does it say that "sexual violence is totally fucking cool." in the commercial? Without going into gory details, I think you're confusing things here. The same way as you're confusing personal rants (fueled by whatever issues you may have) with journalism or useful commentary.

I may not be a big fan of every campaign PETA runs but I certainly wouldn't sign off an article with "I'm so angry I'm going to eat a baby animal" and then go on to say I'm "pro-vegan". That would be like saying I disagree with a Children's Hospital campaign so I'm going to go throw my kid off the roof...but I'm pro-children. Grow up Miranda.

I find it really frustrating that people point at PETA like they are the end all be all of the animal rights movement. There are thousands of groups and millions of people who work against animal exploitation yet the media only ever discusses PETA because of their high profile campaigns. The United Nations puts out a report that animal agriculture contributes more greenhouses then every car in the world and it is virtually ignored. Our gov't wastes up to 20 million tax dollars every year subsidizing a seal hunt that brings in a fraction of that amount. The largest nutritional study ever conducted proves meat and dairy is killing us yet the study is ignored. But hey, Whitney Houston died, I guess we have more important things to worry about.

I would agree that the PETA women are exploited if they say they are exploited. if they are not saying that PETA forced them to exposing themselves in this manner, then it is hardly a matter of exploitation.

Of course, third party onlookers can and obviously do feel offended, but there is no right not to be offended by things. Look away, delicate eyes!

re Peta, SEX AD. Yes, you cannot promote saving animals at the expense of anything, or anyone else. picking on women for use as mascots or victims of any crime is totally unacceptible and makes me wonder about the basic sanity of an organization that would do that. Anymore like that and I will not be promoting Peta website anylonger.

People are ignoring the most obvious issue here. Most vegans that I know are disproportionately sickly human beings, fighting off colds and other signs of malnutrition virtually every other week. I'm not a huge admirer of Tantra, but I imagine that even their porn stars look different than the pale homunculi that I see posting the next all-new I-Can't-Believe-It's-Not-Made-With-Butter-Or-Eggs-Or-Anything-Else-That-Produces-Any-Flavour recipe on Facebook all the time.

Rollo, let's get serious. Take an afternoon and do some research on nutrition. Read a couple books and then get back to me about who is actually sickly. The ignorance on this page is amazing.

Who can blame PETA for appealing to the lowest common denominator...sex. Nobody pays attention unless they are shocked or titillated in our modern Kardashian world. Show people the horrendous animal cruelty, how meat causes a range of illnesses and disease, and how meat production is the #1 cause of environmental devastation and they just roll their eyes and turn the page. Have some people in their underwear and watch the discussion and outrage begin.

Tammy: Although I usually come down on the side of good old ivory-tower abstract book learning, there is something to be said for empirical evidence in this case. Sure, red meat may be rotting me out from the inside. Sure, I may die ten years before you do (let's not get into who's going to enjoy life more until then). But as far as pale and sickly goes, the health-crazed, exercise-addicted, milk-is-still-rape vegans that I know (and, yes, I know surprisingly many) don't only look less healthy in the here and now than many of my sedentary, chain-smoking, red-meat-eating boozehound friends. It virtually happens at least once a month that the latter hit the town, while one or more of the former stay home because of a new virus they've contracted or some other ailment. Science it ain't, but if PETA and the 9/11 truthers have taught us anything, it's that - unless you do the entire research yourself - science can prove pretty much anything people want it to prove. So, for once, I'll settle for the overwhelming empircal evidence here and that says loud and clear: Vegans are healthier only on paper.

um...
this ad is not offensive to me.

it's badly made + it's not funny, so two points off for Peta... but offensive? There's worse things in family guy. difference is fam guy is well made... it make things politically incorrect into things that are actually funny.

Made differently it might go from creepy / awkward to suspension of belief + humor)

Don't blame Peta for trying to appeal to people in new ways... it's not surprising given how tough it is to reach audiences nowadays.

Note the ad says at the end they want you to become a vegan "safely" (ie their point is they DON'T want you to get an injured neck from too much sex).

People need to think for themselves before judging this vid; whoever wrote the post need to stop seeing the worst about everything and get a sense of humor!

In part I think the writer gets the idea that there is relationship abuse going on, because the actress looks like someone "abused" and not standing up for herself, not someone who is simply mildly injured and annoyed. it's all in HOW you do it... but yes, badly made
:(

I actually didn't think this ad depicted a battered women at all. To me it looked like
The fact that she was bringing him more vegetables (to fuel him?) and her face at the end made me think that their sexual relationship was consensual. Different people like to be touched in different ways and I think consensual touch and exploration is very different from domestic abuse.
