Photos: A celebration of litter left behind at the fireworks in Vancouver

    1 of 14 2 of 14

Crowds of people flocked to Vancouver's beaches to take in this year's Celebration of Light finale on Saturday night (July 31).

Some of them forgot to take their trash home with them or how to use a waste bin.

Here's what was left on Kitsilano Beach early this morning (August 1).

To all those yet to evolve to a point where they are capable of picking up their own trash, please stay the f**k off our beaches. This is disgusting. Every year the fireworks brings out all the self-absorbed sheeple, easily mesmerized by shiny things and useless displays of pomp and pageantry and every year this is the crap that they leave behind. Shouldn't we be spending this money on people a little more deserving and things that are actually needed? Like education, environmental protection, health-care, and homelessness for starters?

Kitsilano streets are nearly as bad. *Embarassing*. Why not make one LONGER evening each year so the energy expended into attending (car fumes, people and their rubbish) is condensed into one clean-up? I still don't understand the concept of FOUR evenings of fireworks each year.

In the States, there are great fireworks shows on July 4th. And it's a treat in most American cities. Perhaps it's time for Vancouver to follow suit.

Watching the fireworks at a distance this year. I now live on the Island and can say I don't miss this event. We called it the Pee fest, as the alley we lived on near the Silvia hotel was a latrine every night. The dry conditions this time of year keeps the smell of piss for days after wards and the garbage is unbelievable. They should plan the event in West Van or Kits and see what happens. Maybe just have it in Surrey as that would keep things simple for traffic, transit and the garbage would stay there where it belongs.
