Photos: Downtown New Westminster along Columbia Street
It's fair to say that Columbia Street in New Westminster has experienced its share of ups and downs over the years.
It's peak occurred during the first half of the 20th century, when the so-called Golden Mile (also known as the Miracle Mile) was a bustling centre of commerce.
However, the rise of the suburbs took some of the shine off the Royal City's downtown in the second half of the last century.
But the area is coming back, thanks to lower real-estate prices and the presence of five SkyTrain stations in the city, including two along Columbia Street.
