Photos: Locally handmade Ora Bags debuts fall 2012 collection
The fall 2012 collection for locally-made Ora Bags debuted at Gastown’s Nouvelle Nouvelle (209 Abbott Street) on August 15. Designer Randi Obenauer, who makes each one-of-a-kind piece by hand, was on hand to talk about her latest creations.
Speaking to the Straight, Obenauer said that her designs are often based on bags that she wants for herself. Earlier this year, she was coveting a bag with fringe detailing after seeing something similar on a vintage leather jacket, thus the rock ‘n’ roll-ready Kinley purse ($360) was born. The bag made from soft, pebbled leather features long fringe and a front-flap closure.
Also new to Ora Bags’ fall 2012 collection is the Riley briefcase ($425), inspired by Obenauer wanting to carry her laptop in a stylish bag. The briefcase is available in both butterscotch and charcoal hues, and features a short strap on top and a longer adjustable strap on the sides.
Fans of Ora Bags’ popular bucket bags will find new colours of the Sadie ($250), which works as both a bucket bag and a backpack. The newer Toby ($350) has a similar design with the addition of braided and tasseled drawstrings.
