Photos: Telus TaiwanFest street banquet and more
The Telus TaiwanFest attracted long lineups to a street banquet in the Granville Mall.
I participated in a game of "Survey Says" with two Straight colleagues, Navdeep Chhina and Michelle da Silva, against a team from ACSEA (Asian Canadian Special Events Association).
Sponsored by Telus, the game tested stereotypes of Canadians and newcomers, which were generated through surveys conducted on the websites of ACSEA, the Straight, and Fairchild.
At times, it appeared that the audience was better at identifying stereotypes than either team, particularly on the topics of interracial couples and the first names that newcomers give their children. Things were looking particularly bleak for the Straight team until we pulled off a come-from-behind victory thanks to Navdeep's impressive knowledge of cellphones.
