Pixar adopts a Scottish accent for new Brave teaser trailer
With Cars 2 garnering middling reviews but topping the box office, the folks at Pixar must have some mixed feelings right about now. The phrase "crying all the way to the bank" comes to mind.
At the very least, they're probably hoping the nay-saying media will move on to what's coming next, and who are we not to oblige? Pixar's next feature, due out next summer, is called Braveheart... um, make that Brave. Judging by the flame-red tresses of the heroine, what appears to be a Shetland pony, and the narrator's accent, it's a safe bet that Brave is set in Scotland.
That's confirmed by the movie's official Facebook page, which lists noted Scots such as Billy Connolly and Craig Ferguson among the voice talent. (Kelly Macdonald, Emma Thompson, and Robbie Coltrane are also in the cast.)
Brave is a significant release for Pixar, because it features the animation studio's first female protagonist. Merida is a princess who defies her kingdom's traditions by pursuing her interest in archery, and inadvertently unleashes chaos and pisses off a giant black bear. Or something like that.
