Refused and At the Drive-In reunite for Coachella 2012 lineup
Every year you promise yourself “I’m going to Coachella, not to mention, CMJ, South By Southwest, and that sunscorched-flesh shitshow known as Burning Man.” This year you have at least two huge reasons to actually make one of those vows come true.
Coachella has announced its lineup for 2012, the event taking place over two weekends for the first time. As one might expect there’s the usual mix of shit-hot headliners, including the Black Keys, Dr. Dre & Snoop Dogg, Bon Iver, and Justice. Those with a taste for tuneless, hookless, and completely unlistenable art rock will also be happy to hear that Radiohead has pulled itself out of mothballs as well.
The big news, however, is that two of postpunk's most influential acts—both of whom broke up at the peak of their powers—have reformed and are booked for Coachella. Emo trailblazers At the Drive-In will end an 11-year hiatus when they perform on April 15 and 22, the Dre-topped bill also including Florence + the Machine, Girl Talk, the Hives, Justice, and the pompadoured scrag known as La Roux.
Sweden’s insanely influential the Refused have also buried the hatchet, reconvening for Coachella’s April 13 and 20 shows. In addition to the Keys, they’ll appear alongside Arctic Monkeys, Cat Power, Amon Tobin, Pulp, and the ever-awesome EMA.
The best news about all of this? It means you don’t have to see Radiohead, who’ll be giving master clinics in the art of being insufferable on April 14 and 21. Either that, or you can show up and then do the sensible thing and bolt after Bon Iver, Andrew Bird, Feist, and St. Vincent.

awww, did they not sign an autograph for you when you were younger?
I didn't call them emo. I called them emo trailblazers. Countless "emo" (whatever the hell that means) were inspired by them. Much like the Refused paved the way for screamo, even though they aren't a screamo band.
