Rob Ford's niece tells women "don't dress like a whore" to avoid sexual assault
Another day, another story about someone in Toronto with the last name Ford making a complete and total ass of themselves.
The Ford in question today is Toronto mayor Rob Ford's niece, Krista. The former captain of Toronto's lingerie football team sent a tweet earlier this week on how to prevent sexual assault: "Stay alert, walk tall, carry mace, take self-defence classes & don't dress like a whore."
Ahhh, that's some sound victim-blaming right there. Remember ladies: if you get raped, it's not the rapist's fault. You provoked the attack. Because you were dressed like a whore.
Krista, who writes in her Twitter profile, "I don't want to be Barbie, I want to bench press her", has since removed the offending tweet.
I do not intend to shame Krista for any perceived hypocrisy here. I really don't think she's being a hypocrite; I think she's just repeating a foolish sentiment held by a lot of people, which is that skimpy clothing provokes rape.
(Newsflash: It doesn't. Rape isn't about sex; it's about power and violence.)
Honestly, I think it's kind of great that she once took a job in which she kicked a lot of ass while prancing around in her underwear. I have to respect WWE fighters, beach volleyball players, and any other women athletes who are forced to wear skimpy clothing by the male-dominated sports industry for the exact same reason.
But if you can recognize you don't need to wear a lot of clothing to be tough, strong, and powerful, you're smart enough to realize that clothing has nothing to do with sexual assault.

But anyway, so I'm checking out the photo here and then all of a sudden I see the family resemblance. Okey-doke - ogle session over! Ew!
