Rosie O'Donnell blogs she married girlfriend in private wedding ceremony
TV personality Rosie O'Donnell blogged on August 27 that she secretly married her fiancée Michelle Rounds in a private ceremony in June.
O'Donnell had announced in December 2011 that the two were engaged. The couple had set a wedding date in August but the wedding had to be postponed as Rounds had been diagnosed with desmoid tumours, a rare and often fatal disease, in June. (Desmoid tumours affect about 900 people in the U.S. every year.)
O'Donnell began her August 27 blog post about how she was raising funds for the Desmoid Tumour Research Foundation by selling her artwork on eBay before she mentioned her marriage.
The two women married in New York City on June 9, prior to Rounds' surgery on June 14. Friends and family were not in attendance due to circumstances but are planning to have a celebration with loved ones when both are in better health.
O'Donnell had previously been married to former Nickelodeon marketing executive Kelli Carpenter, who she shares four children with.
O'Donnell recently suffered health problems of her own.
On August 20, she blogged that she had a heart attack a week prior.
After helping a woman who was struggling to get out of her car, she confused her symptoms of physical pain afterwards with strained muscles. After vomiting, she took aspirin, but didn't see a cardiologist until the next day.
She encouraged women to familiarize themselves with the symptoms.
