Rotten Tomatoes shuts down comments on The Dark Knight Rises
Due to an onslaught of threats and hate speech directed at critics who gave negative reviews to The Dark Knight Rises, movie-review website Rotten Tomatoes has disabled the comments feature for the film.
In a recent blog post, editor-in-chief Matt Atchity says that in response to the violent comments, Rotten Tomatoes will likely move to a “Facebook-based commenting system that doesn't allow for anonymity. You'll have to stand by your comments, just like a critic does. So you'll still be able to argue about a movie you haven't seen, but people will know it was you.”
Atchity goes on to say that the website is also “looking at many other options other than FB, including not allowing comments before a movie opens, moderating all comments before they go live, and a few other things.”
But don’t worry if you still need to vent steam about Batman’s latest exploits. The comments feature should be up and running for the film’s opening on Friday (July 20).
