It's official: Space channel announced today that it has ordered the fourth season of the Vancouver-shot sci-fi series Sanctuary.

Season 3.0 of Sanctuary begins on Space this Friday (January 21) at 6 p.m. PT. and season 3.5 will be broadcast in spring.

The fourth season, featuring 13 episodes, will premiere in the fall.

The series, which began as a web series, was created by Damian Kindler and follows Dr. Helen Magnus (Amanda Tapping) who runs an organization called Sanctuary which seeks to find and assist people and beings with special abilities, known as Abnormals. Her team includes psychiatrist Dr. Will Zimmerman (Robin Dunne), former con-artist Kate Freelander (Agam Darshi), and tech whiz Henry Foss (Ryan Robbins).

The series won seven of its 17 nominations at the 2010 Leo Awards.

Sanctuary has become one of my favorite shows, I’m so glad it got picked up for another season. I’ve had DISH Network for years (I’m even employed by them now) and I started watching this show on SyFy in the second season. I then had to go back and catch up. After a long period of procrastination I finally broke down, bought a new TV and upgraded to HD equipment. It’s great that DISH offers HD free for life for qualifying customers with all of their America’s Top Packages and the picture is so much more vivid, it makes me want to go back and watch all the episodes of Sanctuary again.
