To set this alarm clock, just add water

Talk about hydroelectricity. While Metro Vancouver is moving toward tapping the spill water from dams in the Capilano and Seymour watersheds, here's a gadget that uses water power on much smaller scale.

The Bedol Water Clock doesn't run on environmentally destructive batteries. It uses tap water. A news release about Bedol's newest model, the Squirt alarm clock, says, "Inside of the semi-transparent water reservoir are proprietary metallic plates that allow ions in the water to be turned into current which powers the clock and alarm." Apparently, you don't need to replace the water for six months.

While maybe it wouldn't be the best thing if all of our clocks ran on precious drinking water, this clock sounds perfect for those times when, er, you're roughin' it without electricity and need to wake up on time.
