Should Vancouver hold referendum on monkeys in captivity?

The Vancouver Aquarium's newest captive animal isn't a whale or fish.

      It's a monkey—a Goeldi’s monkey, to be specific.

Today (May 13), the aquarium announced that a baby monkey is the "new addition" to its Graham Amazon Gallery.

The baby—whose sex has yet to be determined—was born on April 16 to mother Ginger and father Fred, and has an older brother named Diego.

"It’s certainly is an exciting period for us as we have only been home to this family for a few months. The entire family has settled in nicely and is a great addition to the Amazon exhibit," Dennis Thoney, the aquarium's director of animal operations, said in a news release.

I can see two public voting opportunities that might be appropriate responses to this news:

      1. A name-that-monkey contest.

      2. A referendum or plebiscite on monkeys in captivity in Vancouver.
