Smoking Sausage BBQ Cook-off hits Mount Pleasant alley
The second-annual Smoking Sausage BBQ Cook-off takes place Saturday (August 4) from 5 to 9 p.m. in the alley west of Main Street between Broadway and 8th Avenue.
Organized by the Mount Pleasant BIA and Livable Laneways—a non-profit dedicated to transforming Vancouver alleys into pedestrian-friendly areas—the Smoking Sausage BBQ Cook-off features handmade sausages created by master sausage maker Drews Driessen-van der Lieck of D-Original Sausage Co. (2525 Main Street), with recipes submitted by local restaurants, including the Cascade Room, Hyde Restaurant (which won last-year's cook-off), the Rumpus Room, eight ½ Restaurant Lounge, and Rhizome Café.
Admission to the event is $3, and all proceeds will be donated to the Greater Vancouver Food Bank. Attendees will get to sample and vote on competing sausages, and be entered to win a gift certificate to participating restaurants.
